Obituary for Agnes Eliassen

Agnes Eliassen, a longtime resident of Yonkers, NY died on April 14th peacefully in her home. She was 104 years old.

The eldest of 6 children; 5 sisters and 1 brother born to Anna and Jacob Petersen in NYC. Married May 11, 1940 to Edward Eliassen (deceased) at the Mission Church in Washington Heights, NY where they both attended. She became the church pianist and organist and a participant in the string band, a precursor to the praise band of today. Her husband became an elder at the church. In the mid 50’s the family moved to Yonkers and continued to attend the Mission Church and eventually became active participants at Bethany Chapel in Yonkers. Worshiping and praising God and proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus was always an important part of her life.

Holidays were usually celebrated at her house with family and friends. The children loved to come to “Big Ma’s” house (as she was affectionately called) for fun, games and singing.
She had 4 children; Janet Hart (Henry-deceased), Walter (deceased), twin girls Carolyn (Tom) Toth and Christine (Ronald) Toth.

She is survived by her youngest sister, Alice Julia Fenty, her 3 daughters, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased by 1 grandchild and 1 great grandchild.
