Albert Pizzirusso, a longtime Westport resident and local business owner, passed away Sunday. He was 47.

Pizzirusso owned the A&S Fine Foods locations in Stamford, and Westport - which he ran with his wife of two decades, Patricia.

Originally from Yonkers, Pizzirusso graduated from The Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park. From there, he went on to chef at some of the country’s most legendary restaurants including the Rainbow Room - under Tony May, the Ritz Carlton Hotel, and other fine dining locations.

It was at the Rainbow Room that he impressed the ‘Queen of Cuisine’, Julia Child, with his dedication - being the only one in the kitchen who didn’t stop working when she entered. She said the kind of commitment and focus he displayed proved he had what takes to go into business for himself. She was right.

Pizzirusso combined his love of Italian culture, great food, and old school “let me make you an espresso” traditional service in his businesses - bringing to the communities he served a quality of service and offerings seemingly from a bygone era.

Being a part of - and adding value to his community was evidenced in his unfailingly generosity to local charities and organizations.

He is survived by his loving wife Patricia, parents Agnes and Angelo, brothers Mario (his twin), and Michael, sister-in-law Laura, and nephews Matthew and Eric. As well as his beloved Yorkie, Eddie.

His legacy will be carried on through his businesses, and by those who love and remember his boundless enthusiasm and joy.

Due to current restrictions, services will be limited to family and close friends.

A lover of celebrating just about anything, a ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held in his honor this Summer.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Westport Humane Society, 455 Post Rd E, Westport, CT 06880.
