Obituary for Andrea DiGiorgio

Our beloved Andrea passed away this week on Wednesday afternoon,August 10, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She grew up in Yonkers NY, second oldest of three daughters of Pearl and Andrew DiGiorgio. She was educated in the Roosevelt High School Special Education Program. After High School, Andrea was in the Westchester ARC Program which helped her secure a job at the Saint Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers.

Andrea worked for 30 years at Saint Joseph’s Seminary where she was given the honorary name of “Mother Superior” from the clergy and kitchen staff. Her family members attended the annual Employees and Family Mass and Dinner event held at the Seminary with Andrea. It was always a highlight for Andrea to show off her two nephews and other family members. Each time was always like the first time for Andrea, she was very proud of her family. Andrea was a special person, always eager to make friends and be in the center of conversations, especially around the holidays. Andrea also participated in numerous recreational events with the Westchester ARC.

Andrea did not let her disabilities stop her from living a content life. She moved into a group home in Nanuet NY, to provide a better lifestyle for her and to give her the opportunity to utilize her social butterfly skills more often. Andrea was a master cookie baker, a skill she learned from her mother and used it well especially around the holidays. Andrea continued to work on her hobbies such as crocheting, puzzle books, card games, arts and crafts and cooking.

Andrea is survived by her loving sister Susan Cingolani, her Husband Dean, their sons Andrew and Brad, her sister Mary Ellen Smith and her Husband Larry.
