Obituary for Antony Jacques Blanchard

Antony Jacques Blanchard (85), of Elmsford, NY passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

Antony, fondly known as “Jacky” in some circles and “Tony” in others, was born on November 27, 1937 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. As a young child, he played the trumpet and the French horn.

In school, Antony was an excellent student. He graduated from the University of Haiti in 1961 with a degree in engineering. In his twenties he moved to Jamaica for a year to learn ‘English’. He then moved to New York City, with a Jamaican accent. Antony’s first job in New York was as a book binder. On August 26, 1964, Antony married Edwidge Blanchard (nèe Lemoine). They were married for over 50 years.

Antony worked as a civil engineer for over 45 years. The majority of those years were with Malcom Pirnie and Greely & Hansen, two of the top environmental engineering companies in the field. His last job before retirement, and the place he was most proud of was the Hillview Reservoir in Yonkers. When he would drive along I-87, he could see the reservoir from the highway. Antony would stick out his chest and say, “I built that!”

Antony loved to travel! He spent time all over the world. He took many cruises and tour buses around the country. Antony visited 4 out of 7 continents and enjoyed every minute! Some of his favorite destinations were China and his apartment in Ft. Lauderdale. From his apartment in Florida he was very fond of his lakefront view where he would paint still life scenes. Antony loved genealogy, fishing, word searches, watching NASCAR, playing tennis and going to the US Open in New York, and traveling to the Theodore D. Young Community Center in Greenburgh, NY. Antony was a loyal and true friend and cousin. He would call his friends and family for their birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions without fail.

Antony was preceded by his parents Gaston and Marie Cecil (née Magdaleon) Blanchard, his older brothers Guy and Gerald (Daddy) Blanchard, his older sister Adeline (Didine) Blanchard, his wife, Edwidge Blanchard, his son, John Blanchard.

Antony is survived by his devoted sons Patrick and Alain, his daughters-in-law Roselyn (née Sajous) and Viveca (née Grant), grandchildren Daniella, Cristian, Kendall, Alyssa and Sophia (and grand-dog Derek) and his older brother Claude Blanchard.
