Obituary for Dolores P. Bellitto

Dolores P. Bellitto, of Yonkers, NY died peacefully at home, with her children by her side, on August 25, 2022. Born in the Bronx to the late John and Josephine Patrone on April 27, 1931, Dolores was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore J. Bellitto, loving mother of Douglas Bellitto, Robin (Bill) Stettnisch and the late Glenn (Kyle) D. Bellitto and cherished grandmother of Dale Bellitto; Kevin, Ryan and Matthew Stettnisch; and the late Gage Bellitto.

Dolores was gifted with a keen intellect, skipping grades, and graduating at the top of her class at Evander Childs High School in the Bronx. She went on to attend City College at a time when many women were not encouraged to pursue higher education. It was there that she met her soulmate Salvatore, aka “Sam”. They married in July of 1955 at St. Valentine Church in the Bronx. Eventually they made their home Yonkers and were blessed with three children, Glenn, Doug, and Robin, whom she loved beyond measure. She left a career in finance to raise her family and when the time was right she began a second career at the Bronxville Public Library. She adored her new job and friends who became like a second family, retiring in 2005 after over two decades of dedicated service.

Dolores was a religious woman who loved to attend daily Mass. Her faith deepened extraordinarily while living in Michigan for two years. There she joined the Catholic Charismatic Renewal which changed and defined the last forty years of her life. It was that faith that sustained her through the heart-shattering and sudden losses of her adored grandson Gage, and her beloved son Glenn two years later. It was that very same faith that she loved to share with others, giving her the special gift of touching even strangers with her kindness.

Dolores loved to travel and some of her favorite vacations were to Hawaii, Italy, and Bermuda. But by far her most cherished were family trips to Florida, Quogue, Lake George, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and a fabulous Caribbean cruise.
In her lifetime she had so many beautiful experiences shared with family, as well as friends. In fact, she often would say she was so grateful to God for such a wonderful life.

Love you Mom. Love you Grandma. Always and forever.
