Obituary for Domenica "Mona" Carta

Domenica Carta, known by friends and family as “Mona” was born June 18th, 1936 in Sciacca, Sicily, to her parents Bernardo and Caterina Indelicato. Mona passed away in the early morning hours on 4/12/2023 at home with loved ones after a short illness. “Mona” was a long time resident of the city of Yonkers, where she was known as a local institution delivering slices at the counter of Dunwoodie Pizza. She was always sure friends, family, and sometimes even strangers were taken care of and well fed. She insisted that all the kids who would come into the pizza shop after school wouldn’t be hungry, even if she had to pay for it out of her own pocket - which she did often.

Mona was so very dedicated to her family. It was impossible to ever visit without being bombarded with food - for now and for later. She was always happiest taking care of her children and grandchildren - whether feeding them, cleaning for them (her hatred of dust was legendary), folding laundry, or clothing them. No one was ever in need so long as Mona was around.

Domenica was predeceased by her husband Salvatore Carta, who died in August of 1969. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Joan and Bob Rogan, Cathy and Sabatino Casatelli, and Andrea Nina (her favorite!) and Keith Terraforte; her brother “Nino” and sister Josie; her grandchildren Toni-Anne and KT; her two great grandchildren Nile and Keith III; and many loving nieces and nephews
