Obituary for Donald R. McClarence

Donald Ransford McClarence was born in Kingston Jamaica on December 27, 1941to Dudley Mc Clarence and Ivy Dacres. He received his early education at Half Way Tree Primary School
and Tarrant High School in Kingston. He was an excellent Football player at both Schools and was always on the All-Star Squad.

After school, he apprenticed briefly as a shoemaker before migrating to England in 1961. He worked at several jobs but finally found his true profession at a large automobile body shop. There he developed his skills in auto painting and soon developed the reputation of being one of the best auto spray painters in the business.

Donald married Rose Bascoe in 1963. The union produced three children- Ian, Carlton and Carla. Unfortunately, after emigrating to the United States in 1972, the marriage ended in divorce. In 1986, Donald married Hyacinth, his childhood next door neighbor and schoolmate. They enjoyed a happy marriage for 37 years.

In 1974 he joined the staff of New York Hospital in Manhattan as a Boiler Operator in the Engineering Department. He enjoyed a long, successful career until his retirement in 2010.

Donald was a jovial, funny, likeable person with a spontaneous sense of humor. He was always willing and kind to all his family and friends.

Donald will best be remembered as an avid music lover, DJ and vinyl record collector extraordinaire. His vast knowledge of all music genres- Reggae, Calypso, Blues, Jazz, etc. won him the name Bald Head The Greatest. Over the years, he accumulated a vast collection of Vinyl records- 45s 78s, LPs, Cassettes and CDs.

Donald has been ailing for several years with Pulmonary disorders, hypertension, heart disease and diabetes. He has been in and out of Hospitals and Rehabilitation Centers. Recently, his condition worsened and he finally lost a brave fight. He died peacefully in the St Johns Hospital in Yonkers on Saturday April 15 2023 at 3.30 pm.

He leaves to mourn, his wife Hyacinth, his ex-wife Rose, Children Ian, Carlton, Carla, Andrea, twins Donald and Ronald, Stepchildren, Lewin, Felicia, Dane and Chris, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends.
