Obituary for Edward J. O'Connor

Edward J. O’Connor, beloved family man and friend, entered into eternal rest on April 5, 2023 after valiantly battling illness. Formerly a long-time resident of Yonkers, he passed away peacefully at Sarah Neumann Nursing Home in Mamaroneck, Westchester.

Edward was affectionately known to his family as “Eddie” and to his friends as “Eddie-O.” A friend to all, he had a big heart and a fun-loving demeanor. He was born May 14, 1955 to the late Patrick and Kathleen O’Connor (née McLoughlin) in Astoria, Queens. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Elementary School graduating class of 1969, as well as a 1973 graduate of Monsignor McClancy High School. Eddie graduated in 1977 from Iona College where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration. He enjoyed going to school reunions and was an active participant and supporter of alumni associations and events.

Eddie was a dedicated Con Edison employee for 36 years. Throughout his years on the job, Eddie made many life-long friends whom he loved spending time with.

Eddie was an avid reader, history buff, and movie aficionado. He had a vast collection of commemorative coins, comic books, and Star Wars memorabilia. Over the years, Eddie enjoyed attending many concerts and Broadway shows. Often sporting a cap on his head and a cheerful Hawaiian shirt, he loved sharing meals and good old Irish “craic” with family and friends. He enjoyed many vacations with friends at the Jersey shore as well as trips to Europe with family. He was especially happy when spending time in Edgeworthstown, Longford, home of his overseas Irish family. Eddie enjoyed immersing himself in his Irish culture through cruises, music, food, and travel.

Eddie is survived by his Aunts Maureen, Lily, and Nora, his Uncle Tom, and many loving cousins both here in and in Ireland, godchildren, and many friends whom he regarded as family.

Eddie will always be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and his friends. He will be forever in our hearts.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
