Obituary for Edwin Hernandez
On Friday, January 13, 2023 Edwin Hernandez, beloved husband and father of 3, was lost to us too soon, at the age of 62.
Born to Maria L. Santana and Conrado Hernandez Sr. on August 29,1960, Edwin was proudly raised in the South Bronx and became a talented and skilled repairman. Married for 39 years, his family knew him to be silly with a great sense of humor. He could make light of almost any situation and enjoyed teasing and watching his grandchildren and their antics.
In the community, he was affectionately known as “Ed” or “Mr. Eddy” and was a funny, grumpy,
neighborhood Grandpa who volunteered countless hours fixing anything that needed fixing. Out
front of Unit 143 he could be found working on anything from children’s bicycles to being
covered in grease repairing someone’s car - likely while swearing and cracking jokes. Mr. Eddy
was the man family and friends would count on for help repairing anything short of a jet
engine…though, he probably could do a hell of a job with a wrench, a phillips screwdriver and
some duct tape.
Edwin is survived by his adoring wife Doris Hernandez and three children, Edwin Hernandez Jr.,
Noelia O’Leary and Amy Hernandez. He leaves behind ten grandchildren, Hailee Cordero 15
(yrs) Emily Cordero (14) Genesis Hernandez (12) Mackenzie Hernandez (10) Nathaniel
Hernandez (9) Mia Hernandez (7) Jack O’Leary (6) Evan Gamboa (5) Aria O’Leary (2) and
Lucas Hernandez (1), his mother, Maria L. Santana, sister Madelina Villarini and brother,
Conrad Hernandez.
Though rough around the edges, Edwin had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up the
sky. Words cannot express the void his passing has left behind.
Visiting and a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 16th at Flynn Memorial Home, 1652 Central Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10710 from 4pm to 8pm.
