Obituary for Gene Amedei

We are saddened to announce the passing of Gene (Umberto) Amedei, on the 29th of May, 2021.

Gene (Gino) was a beloved husband to his pre-deceased wife Lyn Amedei (Silver), a loyal father to Laurel Amedei Freeman, Judy Amedei-Starr (Art Starr), and adored grandfather to Dara Freeman, Joshua Freeman, Riley Starr, Lucy Starr, and great-grandfather to Luciana Freeman.
Gino lived a full life in his 93 years. He was born and raised in Genoa Italy, and through his ascension to an accomplished musician, as well as his tenure in the Italian Army; Gino always worked hard. Son to Emilia & Umberto Amedei, and brother to Amedeo (Italo) Amedei, Gino's bravado, humor, musical talent and fearlessness were the tenets that brought him across the world to find his soulmate from New York City.

Working as a musician on a cruise to the Bahamas, he dedicated a "canzone" to Lyn via accordion medley, and the flame was lit. He then courted her from many locations around the world, writing letters with an Italian-to-English dictionary. Lyn and Gino's love permeated through different faiths, languages, and cultures.
After beating all odds, Gino married his greatest love in Italy in 1953, and bravely immigrated to the United States where he moved to the Bronx and raised 2 daughters. His loyalty and strong work ethic brought him a comfortable livelihood working for Fink Bakery for over 30 years, all while working as a musician on weekends. Living in the Bronx and later in Yonkers, Gino made friends that became his family.

Handsome and charismatic, Gino always lit up a room...often from the tanning oil still reflecting the sun on his skin. He loved "getting sun”, the NY Giants, big band and classical music, the Sadore Lane pool, American culture, and the rich Italian cooking from his childhood, (later mastered by his Jewish wife!).
Gino's warmth, music, and love has touched us all, and he will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in peace and rest easy with his soulmate, Lyn "Bebe" Amedei.

Sempre insieme e innamorata.
