Obituary for Gloria E. Alongi

We are saddened to announce the passing of Gloria Alongi. After 95 wonderful years she is joining the angels in heaven and her beloved husband Joseph and her great-grandson, Logan.

Gloria is survived by her three children, Jennifer, Joseph and Joan, son in laws, Vincent Romano and Steve Barretta, eight grandchildren, Frank Romano (Jessica), John Romano (Lauren), Vincent Romano, Joseph Alongi (Michelle), Stephen Barretta, Christopher Barretta, Jessica Barretta and Gabriella Carvaja. Gloria was blessed with eight great-grandchildren Vienna Romano, Angelina Romano, Alyssa Romano, John Romano, Gianna Alongi, Jake Alongi, Hailey Romano and Luke Alongi.

Her life-long affair with her husband Joe began when he was 10 year old and Gloria was eight. Joe was pulling a red wagon and asked Gloria if she wanted a piece of gum. Gloria was the matriarch of a large family and the only remaining surrogate for her beloved nieces and nephews. She has put family first and instilled that in all her children and grandchildren.

Gloria was a seamstress in her early years before children. When her children were of age, she went to work as a cook in St Philip Neri in the Bronx. She was very proud of her work in the kitchen feeding the young elementary school children.

Gloria was a parishioner of St Eugene’s Parish for fifty years and a generous supporter of St Jude’s Children’s
Research Hospital and Graymoor in Garrison, New York.

Her legacy is defined by the family values she instilled in all of us to put family first. Gloria was the beacon of light for all who knew her. She always loved beautiful clothes, high heels and getting her hair done at the beauty parlor. Gloria always looked her best.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Stony Point Seals.
