Obituary

James “Al” Coleman was born in Glencairn, County Waterford in 1943. He was one of ten siblings, many of whom immigrated to the United States. After moving to New York at the age of 16, he carved out a career for himself as a carpenter working in the local 608 carpenter’s union before branching out and starting his own company.

James was an avid lover of all sports, having a soft spot for his beloved Waterford hurling. He would routinely listen to them on the radio and keep up with their scores every week. James was also an avid reader, consuming many a book (especially regarding the history of hurling) and newspaper. He loved traveling to Florida every winter, soaking up some Mets baseball and sunshine along the way.

He was a beloved husband, father and friend. James is survived by his wife, Helen, and son, Justin. He passed away in the loving care of his family at his home in Yonkers, New York. He was 77.
