Obituary for John Joseph Fillo

John Joseph Fillo was born on June 28, 1941 in Yonkers to Martin and Catherine Fillo. John worked as a chemist at Boyce Thompson until they relocated to Ithaca, New York. He then went to work for Graphite Company until 1991 when his father asked him to help him care for his mother in her final days....Once Catherine passed, John then cared for his father until he passed in 1995.

John then spent his life in service to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Yonkers, where he not only cared for the church property but also for the entire neighborhood. When John wasn't cleaning up the community, he could be found spreading the Good News of the Lord to the community as well as his loved ones. John's ready smile welcomed one and all to the 10 AM service at Holy Trinity Lutheran every Sunday rain or shine. Though on April 23rd, John's final day on earth, was rainy, with his always ready, clean shaven smile, John was eager to head to Holy Trinity because "He wouldn't melt". After worship he took a short drive around his beloved Yonkers before spending the remainder of his day cheering on the Knicks as they won their playoff game. He then continued watching Nascar, baseball and more basketball until well into the very early morning. John then wished God's Blessing on all and closed his eyes. John was then awaken only when he was in the arms of his Risen Lord in heaven.

John Joseph Fillo will be deeply missed by his surviving cousins throughout not only Yonkers, but also Pennsylvania. The congregation at Holy Trinity will rejoice because we knew and loved our brother in Christ, but with a heavy heart.
