Obituary for Joseph Ceriale

Joseph James Ceriale:
Crestwood, NY

Joe left this world on April 18, 2020 after battling illness in the hospital for weeks. He was born Joseph James on January 6th 1928 and raised in East Harlem, NY before moving to Yonkers, NY in 1972. Joe worked as a plasterer for various construction companies. For the last 15 years of his career, Joe was a Public Housing Supervisor for the City of New York where he had many fond memories, good friends and great stories to share. Joe was also a proud Veteran with the United States Army, serving in the Pacific during the 1940s.

“Big Joe” was a devoted Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. He was incredibly funny with a razor sharp wit, extremely generous with his loved ones, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to read, especially James Patterson, talk about life and most importantly be with his family. To him, providing for his family was his greatest joy. Linda, his Daughter, was the apple of his eye and they enjoyed many great times together. Linda spent her whole life living with her Dad until his final days. They had a very close bond and special relationship. When Linda married her love Kevin in 1980, they moved into Joe’s home and raised their son Joseph, his namesake, all together. His favorite time was “hanging out” with his grandson, playing ball and cards, watching television together and mostly just laughing. They would share stories and times that only a Grandson and Grandfather could have together. When Joseph married his love Jackie in 2015, he said “Jackie is the Granddaughter that I never had and now I do!” In 2018 his Great-Grandson Thomas James was born, and to quote him again “That was the highlight of my life!”

Joe’s other favorite past times included listening to oldies on 101.1 at full blast in the garage, taking meticulous care of his 1999 Mercury Cougar, watching action movies and dancing well into his 80s at the Royal Regency or Ramada Inn in Yonkers. He was an avid motorcycle rider and used to enjoy commuting from his home to Brooklyn, NY. He and his grandson shared many fun rides on his Honda motorcycles. We will cherish all the great memories that we had together as a family. He was a wonderful man that lived a very blessed life always surrounded by his cherished family.

Joe was predeceased by his wife Rosalie. They were married for 33 years, and he fondly spoke of her to his grandson even in his final days. He is survived by his Daughter Linda LoPresti, Son-in-law Kevin, Grandson Joseph and his wife Jackie, Great-Grandson Thomas, and Brother Carmelo.

Due to the COVID-19 virus there will be no funeral or mass at this time but a celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
