Obituary for Juanita "Aning" Lozada

Juanita “Aning” Lozada passed away on May 5, 2020 at the age of 81. Aning emigrated from the Philippines to the United States in 1969 and settled in the Inwood section of New York City.

She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church for over 40 years. Her weekly ritual included attending Sunday morning mass followed by breakfast with fellow Filipino parishioners. Cherished friendships quickly grew from their shared faith and culture. Weekly breakfasts were soon followed by long neighborhood walks, shopping, family gatherings and fun casino trips.

Her caring nature, soft spoken voice and selflessness will be forever missed. Although she lived a resilient life, she enjoyed life’s simplicities such as cooking. Her family and friends will especially miss her famous Pancit, Kare-Kare and Leche Flan. Special mention for Lola’s homemade chicken nuggets, which are her picky grandson Max’s favorite food. Juanita worked as a substitute teacher at P.S. 98 and was an avid Yankees fan. Even during her final years living at the Hebrew Home, she still managed to follow her beloved New York team.

Aning was predeceased by her husband, Fredo. She is survived by her son, Joseph; daughters, Jeanette and Feli; grandsons, Max and Ryan; sisters, Vita and Ely; and many nieces and nephews.

Mother, Lola, Aunt, Sister and Friend… she was truly loved and will be remembered forever in our hearts
