Obituary

Kathleen “Ann” O’Hara (née Riley) of Yonkers, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 3rd. She was 92 years old.

Ann was born on July 19, 1928. Originally from Schenectady, NY she attended Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY and spoke fondly of her time there. She called the Park Hill section of Yonkers home and was a long time parishioner of the former St. Denis parish.

The caring matriarch to 36, Ann was the loving wife of the late John W. O’Hara Sr. She was the mother of nine children - Kathleen Mills, Jean Murphy, Susan Harrington, Patricia Nugent, Barbara, Thomas, Peter and the late John Jr. (Jack) and Carol. She was “Nana” to sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who nicknamed her “Nanny G.O.A.T” - “greatest of all time.”

Ann was a consummate reader & library patron whose rituals included her daily newspapers, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. She loved cooking, baking & dining out and was best known for her legendary ginger cookies. Her home was always open to all.

So sorry to hear of Ann’s passing. As her picture shows, Ann always had a smile and a laugh. The last time I saw her was about 10 years ago on her front porch. When she saw me, she said to my mother, “Oh my God! He looks just like Bob!” Ann was my Godmother and when I was growing up, she always sent me a card with a few dollars on my birthday. Made me feel special.
Ann and John played a significant role in populating the United States. They were always fun to be around. My family would visit them in Yonkers every Christmas Day and every summer for a BBQ for years. I always looked forward to seeing the O’Hara’s because there was a lot of action in and around that house. Ann was good to us and made you feel at home. All the Pariots loved those ginger cookies. It was good that Ann was here fo 92 years and lucky for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends to have her. Condolences to all in Ann O’Hara’s very large family.
With love,
Jim Pariot
