(En Español más abajo)

Margarita Lemus Arevalo, age 94, passed away Friday evening, April 3, 2020. She was born in 1926, in Ahuachapán, El Salvador. The matriarch of 7 children, 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 8 tataranietos (great-great-grandchildren) and she loved them all. She worked very hard to raise her family, transferring her moral values and spiritual principles to them.

She moved to the US in 80’s leaving El Salvador to escape the war, was a proud US citizen and worked as a seamstress and was quite talented. Her altruism was more highly notable, as she dedicated her life to helping poor communities and churches in her native country El Salvador. She always given what little she had to those in need where she could. For years, she tirelessly pulling together large care packages that she could send back to El Salvador to help. She was a proud, active and dedicated member of the Casa De Dios Church where she was well loved. She loved to sing religious songs with the pastor, an act that she had the joy of doing earlier this year in the comfort of her home.

Many that knew her knew she had an extraordinary eye & talent towards turning commonplace items and materials into to treasures. Many of us having received one of her beautiful handmade roses, sometimes made of fabric scraps, many many times made of Styrofoam egg cartons. Often times the decisions on what eggs to stock in her refrigerator not by the egg type but the egg carton color she desired. Many were in awe of what she would make with her hands and the creativity and skill she had. She channeled her artistic side through a wide array of manual crafting and she loved to teach people her techniques.

We the sons and daughters, in deep grief for our loss, will always remember her. A special thank you is deserved to the wonderful amazing aides that provided invaluable care to her everyday and tended to her like she was their own. And to Angela, we deeply appreciate you for being with her final days. A thank you to her daughter Ana, for the constant almost daily attention that was needed in her care and to ensuring her mother was never without. And Thank you to her friends and the congregants of the Casa De Dios Church for loving and doting on her as well. May God give us strength.

We know that this is a difficult time in history and in lieu of flowers we ask that you perform an act of kindness in her memory. In these difficult somewhat solitary lives we are living right now, even a call to a special person or someone who might not be as lucky as Margarita carries a lot of weight.
Mami we will miss you. We love you BIGGGGG!
