Obituary for Marie Romando

Marie Romando died on December 30, 2022. She was 92.

“Now I know why you always taught me to be so strong because you knew that one day I would need the strength to bear your loss.”

If there could be any quote to describe Marie, it would be this one. Marie was a woman of such strength, resilience, courage, and honor with a heart of pure gold. She protected the ones she loved and touched so many lives. She helped many people achieve such success and greatness in her 92 long years, while continuing to build on her own through her sacrifices and everlasting devotion.

Marie went to high school to study to be a seamstress, but life took her in another direction and she found herself working in the American Bank Note Company, which is now deemed a historical landmark in the Bronx. Marie went back to work after raising her two children, where she worked as the Manager for the NYC Bd of Ed CAP Special Education Department. Prior to this position she was the Parent Association President for Lehman High School, as well as PA President for all the high schools in the Bronx, which was a voluntary position. Holding this position caused her circle of friends to grow very wide and strong with these friendships still lasting to present day. She also worked on the Board of Elections and volunteered with the Bronx Community Planning Board, and the 45th Precinct Council.

Marie was a true Italian and an avid church goer and always loved making her traditional Italian dishes during the holidays.

Marie’s parents were Philip and Fannie Militana.
Marie’s sister was Josephine Militana.
Marie married Louis “Sonny” Romando (WWII soldier) in 1952, which she will now rejoin her husband since his passing in 1986. Marie is survived by her two children Philip and Lisa and their spouses Cheryl and Rey, as well as by her grandchildren Raquel, Louis, and Matthew. She loved to share stories about her life with her grandchildren to create everlasting memories to live on in their hearts forever to pass on to the generations to come.

As her friends and family are sad to see Marie go, they were all so lucky to have the chance to experience all of the love, tenderness, and wisdom she had to share with others. She impacted so many lives around her and did so much for so many. One just couldn’t help but smile when they saw Marie. She was such a beautiful woman both inside and out.
