Obituary for Mary "Maureen" Stack

Maureen Stack (nee Coyne), known to most as Nan, passed away surrounded by the love of family on February 20, 2022 at the age of 84.

Maureen was born on June 21, 1937 in Cleggan, County Galway Ireland to Patrick and Margaret (Murray) Coyne, and immigrated to New York at the age of 18. Throughout her life, she lived in Inwood, Yonkers, and eventually Hastings on Hudson, New York.

Maureen was able to instill a love of “back home” in her children, spending many summers with them in Cleggan and Rossadelisk along with her siblings and family. She worked at John Wanamaker’s and enjoyed seeing the world with her dearest friends. Despite the many trips she took, her favorite place to visit was back home in Ireland, to see all of her family. Maureen was an avid reader and had a passion for the New York Rangers. Any night the Rangers played, you could catch Maureen “sitting front row”, sporting one of her many jerseys.

Her memory is cherished by her daughter Denise deCourcey (Michael) and son James Stack (Marianne); brother Martin Coyne (Geraldine); sisters Josephine deCourcey (PJ) and Rita Armstrong (Robert); grandchildren Mathew deCourcey (Melinda), Kelsey D’Alessandro (Luke), Connor deCourcey (fiancé Katie), Rebecca (Stack) Johnson (Ben), Caitlin Stack, Sarah Stack and James “Patrick” Stack; and great grandchildren Gemma Siena deCourcey, Kate Maeve D’Alessandro and two more bundles of joy on the way.
Maureen is preceded in death by her parents; husband James I. Stack, longtime companion Robert Wohlson, and her sister Brid Walker.

Her kind and generous personality left a lasting impression on everyone that had the privilege of meeting her. Anyone who knew Maureen remembers the first time they met her. She most enjoyed anytime she was able to spend with her grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren.
