Obituary for Philomena M. Yuhas

Philomena “Phil” Yuhas, 91, of Crestwood, NY entered Heaven’s Gates on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020. Born on May 17, 1928 in Kingston, NY to her late parents Angelina and Vincent Sassone. She was the beloved wife to Edward R. Yuhas with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Phil was a graduate of Hunter College with a degree in Chemistry. She went on to work at various companies in the chemical industry culminating in the Precision Valve Corporation in Yonkers where she met her husband Edward. After her marriage, Phil’s finest career became that of a wife, mother and homemaker, all of which she excelled.

A loving mother and grandmother, Phil was happiest when surrounded by her kids and grandkids, especially during the holidays which she always made extra memorable! Her biggest smiles were when she was surrounded by her grandkids playing in the pool and barbequing with the family in the backyard. She was always ready to share a bite to eat or a cup of coffee with friends, family and neighbors as she was always up for and enjoyed a good chat. Phil also took great pride in being part of the Crestwood community and its social events. She loved her Annunciation Church family, attending weekly mass and Ladies of Charity events. And Phil was known to be on the go whether it was delivering Avon, running a quick errand, attending a luncheon, or getting her nails done. The one weekly event she enjoyed most was the “brunch and bowl” at Homefield Bowl with her husband Ed.

Phil also had a penchant for travel. She and her husband traveled to many countries during their 58 years of marriage including trips to England, Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, Spain, Hungary, Russia and China to name a few. Phil and her family also spent a memorable summer in Italy and Switzerland visiting her many relatives and historic landmarks. In recent years Phil and Ed spent time every winter in the Dominican Republic where they enjoyed the warm weather and hospitality. Phil’s other great passion was her love for animals, welcoming countless pets into her home to the delight of her family. Her favorites were always her dogs, with her first dog Kringle, then Cyrano, Max, Heidi, Shannon and her daughter Suzanne’s pup Willow.

Philomena is survived by her devoted husband Edward R., loving children - son Edward V., daughters Suzanne and Pamela, and five cherished grandchildren - Michael, Ian and Claudia (Corry), Sarah and Alexander (Wink). She is also survived by her sister Linda Sassone, and her four beloved nieces.

She is being laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers, NY. Any messages and memories to Philomena and her family can be left on www.flynnmemorialhome.com. A mass and memorial event will be held at a later date to celebrate Phil’s life well lived!
