Obituary for Richard E. Marks

Richard Marks, age 90, passed away on January 19, 2022. Born and raised in the Bronx, Richard lived there until moving to Yonkers to raise his family in 1962 and remained in that home until his death.

Richard went to Samuel Gompers High School and was then then drafted into the Army. A veteran of the Korean War, he remained active in the Army Reserves. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Richard worked for over eight years as a Lighting Maintenance Helper for the NYC Transit Authority. He then became a Transit Officer and quickly rose through the ranks. In 1965 he became the youngest
Transit Police Captain at that time. He remained a District Commander for 24 years until he retired.

Richard was an avid collector of police badges, memorabilia and railroadiana. He also enjoyed driving his Model A Ford as well as being a member of the AACA Car Club of Westchester which he was president for several years.

He is predeceased by his loving wife, Gladys, and will be buried with her. He is survived by his son, Greg, daughter, Cindy and three grandsons, Eddie Jr, Christopher and Louis.
