Obituary for Richard P. McLaughlin

Richard P. McLaughlin son of the late Richard and Frances (Boyle) McLaughlin, passed away suddenly on May 8, 2021 at the age of 77.

Lovingly known as Pop/Poppy, Richie is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Marlene, his sons Richard (Elaine) and Robert (Laurie), his brothers William (Margaret) and Robert, his sister Anne (Joseph) McGlone, and his grandchildren Katie Jo, Daniel and Michael, as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, friends and relatives.

He is predeceased by his sisters, Teresa Kennedy and Margaret Porter, and by his brother, Joseph.

Richie was born in Manhattan in 1944 and attended Farmingdale College before beginning his career with General Motors. He moved on to a second career at MetroNorth in 1974 and became a Railroad Conductor, a role he really enjoyed and where he met the love of his life and partner in crime, Marlene. Richie when on to work at MetroNorth for 31 years retiring in 2005. He then devoted his time to his family, friends and hobbies.

He was an avid biker and animal lover. His Harley was his pride and joy. He enjoyed travelling, cooking/grilling and creating great food for any occasion. Richie genuinely treasured his time with his friends and family and especially his grandchildren, who will miss their Poppy dearly.

Richie was honored to be a member of the Knights of Columbus, Farmingdale Chapter 5983 and the Knights on Bikes Motorcycle Club.

Visitation is being held at Flynn Memorial Home in Yonkers, NY on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm.

A brief prayer service will be offered at Mar Mari Church in Yonkers, NY on Friday, May 14th at 10:00am.

A memorial service will be scheduled to celebrate Richie’s life in the near future.
