Bob attended Sacred Heart and St. Denis grade schools as well as the “old” Yonkers HS, then located at South Broadway and Nepperhan Avenue.

At 17 years of age, Bob left high school and enlisted in the Navy in July of 1942. He served on a destroyer, the USS Champlin DD-601, for over 3 years operating the forward 5-inch gun. The Champlin was credited for the sinking of 3 German U-Boats and shooting down 2 fighter planes while in the North Atlantic. Bob received several medals and in December 1945 was honorably discharged. Bob returned to Yonkers, graduated high school and then attended Pace Business School in NYC.

Bob was hired by the Yonkers Police Department in September of 1949. He began his career on uniform foot patrol out of the old First Pct. on Wells Avenue. He was made Detective in 1951 and took part in several high-profile investigations during his 13-year tenure in the division. In 1968 Bob was promoted to Sergeant and in 1970 brought back into the Detective Division. In 1977, Bob was promoted to Lieutenant and later retired from the Second Precinct in 1989. Bob was the recipient of many department awards as well as the Macy Award.

In 1952, Bob met Patricia Powers, the love of his life. They were married in 1954 and remained in Yonkers all these many years. Bob and Pat were members of the Amackassin Club, where their children learned to swim. Bob enjoyed playing tennis and paddle ball. Bob began running in 1964 and completed 5 Yonkers marathons and one in NYC. Bob also loved to play golf.
Bob was a member of the Alan F. Waite Legion and active in veteran affairs in Yonkers.
Over the years, Bob and Pat traveled this country with the USS Champlin reunions.

Bob’s greatest passion was the love and well being of his family. Bob and Pat were always there to help raise the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
