Obituary for Ruth C. Hillman

Ruth C. Hillman, 94, a lifelong resident of Yonkers passed away peacefully on June 14, 2022 after a long illness.

Ruth was born to Salvatore and Mae Cianciulli on May 21, 1928. She graduated from Charles E. Gorton School in 1946, Mills College in 1950, and Adelphi University. She was also a member of the Gorton High School Reunion Planning Committee for the Class of ’46 in 1992 and 1996.

Mrs. Hillman was an active member of the Fortnightly Club, the Ardsley Garden Club and the Dobbs Ferry Women’s Club. She also created the After School Program at Good Shepherd Church in Yonkers where she tutored children. Mrs. Hillman served on the Board at Andrus Children’s Home and St. John’s Riverside Hospital where she enjoyed volunteering at the gift shop for many years.

Ruth was a very sweet, kind and gentle soul. Everyone who knew her loved her. She enjoyed being active and loved all her social activities. Ruth especially loved caring for her granddaughter Lauren, the sunshine of her life. Ruth would help anyone who needed her. She loved and enjoyed many years of volunteering, serving on various boards and teaching multiple generations of families in the elementary schools. She will be terribly missed.

Mrs. Hillman is survived by her daughter, Susan A. Flower and her husband Kevin, her son Robert Andrew Hillman and his wife Jeanne, cherished granddaughter Lauren E. Flower, grandchildren Christina (Michael) Maruffi, Stephanie (John) Palmer, Robert (Tiffany) Berardinelli and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph W. Cianciulli and his wife Deborah, her nieces Adria Robinson and husband James, and Jessika Cianciulli. Ruth was blessed and fortunate to have a long-time caregiver, Tassie Nelson-Patch, who cared for Ruth as if she were her own mother, and for that we are eternally grateful.

Calling Hours will be at Flynn Memorial Home, on Central Park Avenue, on Thursday, from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10 am, at Christ the King Church. A Committal Service will follow at Ferncliff Crematory Chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, The Alzheimers Foundation or Saint Elizabeth Seton Children’s Hospital, would be deeply appreciated by her family.
