Obituary for Sadie Mae Degree-Oliver

Sadie Mae Degree-Oliver, known as Nanny or Sweet Sadie by family, was born on February 16, 1937 in Shelby, North Carolina, to the late John Henry and Callie Degree.

Sadie moved to Chase City, Virginia as a young girl. It was there that she met and married Junius Oliver. From this union came eight children. In 1953, Sadie and Junius relocated to Yonkers, NY where they grew their family and became pillars in their community. Sadie was well respected and loved by many, especially the Ravine Avenue family!

Sadie was able to show her love of children and helping those in need as a valued employee of Graham-Wyndham for 40 years. Everyone knew her door was always open to anyone in need. Sadie was always willing to provide a listening ear and give great advice to those who came to her.

Sadie leaves to cherish her memory eight children: Deborah Alexander of Yonkers, Adele Dillon (Clyde- deceased) of Yonkers, Jeffrey Oliver (Denise- deceased) of Yonkers, Kathleen Bussey (Al- deceased) of Yonkers, Phyllis Carroll (Charles) of Pennsylvania, Alesia Middleton, Allison and Iris Oliver of Yonkers; 21 grandchildren (2 preceded in death); 10 great grandchildren; and siblings: Ann Crute and Harrison Degree of Yonkers, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Sadie was preceded in death by her brothers: James Degree (Diane), John Henry Degree and sister Emma Lou Degree all of Yonkers, NY.
