Obituary for Sosan Akhtar

Sosan Akhtar was born on May 18, 1944, in Fazilka, Punjab - INDIA. She was one of seven children born to Mariam and Master Lal Singh. Sosan accepted Christ, was baptized at an early age and was a member of the Methodist Church in Fazilka, Punjab. She graduated from Government Girls High School in Fazilka and graduated from Christian Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, Punjab with her Nursing Degree.

In 1971, she married Samuel Akhtar. Two children were born from this union. In 1976 the family emigrated to the United States making YONKERS, New York their new home. She adopted St. John’s Episcopal Church in Getty Square, Yonkers, NY as her home parish.

Sosan worked as a Nurse until 2012 – with her last role in working with the Sisters of Charity at Convent of Mary the Queen, Yonkers. As a nurse - she left a lifelong legacy of helping those who were unable to care for themselves. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, arts & crafts, knitting, shopping at Macy’s, eating out, and the Florida weather.

She went for her eternal rest on October 28th, 2022. She will be missed by all who knew her. Sosan leaves behind her husband Samuel and her loving children Sarita and Salil.
