Sister Ellen Quirke (1926-2022) died at Kittay Senior Apartments on July 9, 2022. She entered the Sisters of Charity of New York on September 8, 1945. Sister Ellen’s ministry included teaching in St. Margaret of Cortona, Bronx, St. Denis, Yonkers; Holy Name, Saint Francis Xavier, Saint Agnes, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, where she was Principal—all in Manhattan. After serving for five years as Director of Sisters of Charity in Formation, Sister began extensive years of service as Social Worker, serving at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers, the New York Foundling, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Grace Institute and the Center for Peace and Justice—all in Manhattan. In 1996, Sister Ellen retired from active service and, in 2007, joined the retired sisters at Mount St. Vincent Convent and later at Kittay Senior Apartments in the Bronx.

Sister Ellen is survived by a niece, Kerry Membach, a cousin Sheila Brosnan and the Sisters of Charity with whom she has shared life for 77 years.

Memorial Mass: Friday 7.15.22 St. Margaret of Cortona, Riverdale
Time 9:45 am.
