Obituary for Thomas J. Svack

Thomas J. Svack, a lifelong Yonkers resident died on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. He was 90 years old. He was born on July 6, 1931 to Thomas and Helen (Miller) Svack.
He graduated from Saunders High School and worked for Pan Am Airlines at JFK Airport, as an airplane mechanic for over 30 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Tom is survived by his loving daughter Maria (Steven) O'Keefe and his nieces and nephews from Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Helen, his wife Sophie and his sisters Marian Vanderberg and Ann Marie Wilson.

Tom will be remembered for his love of his family and friends, his dry sense of humor and being a true handyman who could fix anything. He loved watching the New York Yankees, New York Giants, Notre Dame College Football and Nascar races and could talk about them for hours. He raced motorcycles during the 1950's in the northeast area of the country and had won many trophies, even after he stopped racing he would always have a motorcycle to ride around. He also enjoyed going to the Outers Club, visiting New Hampshire every summer, going to his vintage motorcycle club and visiting Nick's Restaurant every morning for breakfast. He will be forever missed.

Visiting Hours will be at Flynn Memorial Home, 1652 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY from 4-8 pm on Thursday, February 24th . Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Eugene's Church on Friday, February 25th at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
