June 30, 1973 to April 19, 2020
Simone Ann-Marie Brown was born in Kingston, Jamaica on June 30, 1973 to Jean Delores Foster and John Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Nina-Symone Frederick, nephew Kobe Grannum, older brother Garfield Grannum, and father John Brown.
Simone immigrated to the United States as a child. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School, and received her Bachelor’s degree from Mercy College. Simone made a career as a Recreational Therapist, and always held the Director position of her department wherever she worked. She enjoyed caring for others, extremely hard working, driven, and ambitious.
Simone prided herself on being good to others. Simone was an amazing daughter, mother, aunt, sister, and friend. She held her role as mom as the most important, and did everything possible to provide the best life to her daughter. On October 19, 1994, Simone became a mother to her one and only daughter, Nina-Symone Frederick. She often told her daughter, “you are the best thing that ever happened to me”.
Simone was devoted to her family and would do anything to make her loved ones happy. She enjoyed being creative, spending time with loved ones, dancing, and laughing. Simone was grounded in her faith, always expressed feeling truly blessed about her life in all aspects as a mother, daughter, aunt, sister, and friend.
My mom was an amazing person. She loved with all of her heart and as a child, she would always sing “You are my sunshine” to me, tell me every day that she loved me, and our favorite saying to each other was, “It is me and you against the world”. She used to always say “You are my biggest blessing” and she truly was mine.
